In verse 13 Paul expresses his gratitude toward God because the Thessalonians accepted the word of God when they received it. In verses 14-16 Paul then gives more detail about a specific reason that he knows this to be true. Describe in your own words what Paul says in these verses. What do you find encouraging about Paul’s reasoning in verses 14-16?

We see in this section that Paul loves the Thessalonians, in verse 18 Paul blames Satan for bringing about circumstances that hindered him from going to visit the Thessalonians. Read Acts 17:1-11 about Paul and Silas’ first visit to Thessalonica for context on this passage. Keep in mind that this could be related to why Paul was not able to visit the Thessalonians as mentioned in 1 Thess. 2:18. For example, maybe Paul and Silas were not allowed back into the city thus Paul sent Timothy to check on the Thessalonians. We do not know the reason for sure though.
