Colossians 1
-
From verses 1-14 what can we learn about Paul’s audience at Colossae?
-
What are all the things that Paul included in his prayers for the Colossians in verses 3-12? What does Paul want most for the Colossians?
-
Genesis 1:1 says that “God created the heavens and the earth.” Colossians 1:16 says “For by him (Christ) all things were created… all things were created through him and for him.” From these verses we learn that Christ was the agent through whom God created all things. What are all things that we learn about Christ and what he has done in verses 15-20?
-
In your own words, from verses 21-23, describe the state of a believer before Christ saves them, and after.
-
Verse 24 says “I (Paul) am filling up what was lacking in Christs afflictions.” Paul does not mean that anything was lacking in Christ but that there must be future suffering. Read Hebrews 9:24-26 which talks about Jesus being the final sacrifice for sin and John 16:32-33 which talks about us having suffering in the world. Are there ways today that you see yourself or others experiencing suffering for the sake of the gospel?
-
From verses 25-28 describe Paul’s God-given duty to the church. In verse 28 Paul switches to “we” instead of “I” implying that this is our job too as fellow believers and children of God. Describe this job that Paul says we have.
-
Paul ends the chapter in verse 29 with an encouraging description of how he does his God-given duty, how does this impact or encourage how you?
