Colossians 2

  1. In verse 1 Paul says he struggles greatly for the Colossians and the Laodiceans, from verses 2-5 what does he want for these people?

  2. Verses 6-8 establish the call to action in this section that is continued from the previous verses, specifically verse 4. Give a summary of the call to action that Paul gives the Colossians and a summary of his explanation of why in verses 9-15.

  3. Thinking about Paul’s call to action in verse 8, in what ways are people in our day and age taken captive by thoughts and arguments of the world?

  4. What is the point Paul is making in verses 16-19?

  5. Paul mentions asceticism in verse 18 and calls it out in verses 20-23. Define asceticism in your own words. What is the danger of it from verse 23?

  6. We see from verses 16-23 that Paul puts value on certain behaviors and rebukes other behaviors for not being valuable. List the behaviors in these verses that are valuable and those that are not valuable.

  7. In this chapter Paul focuses a lot on reminding the Colossians of who Christ is and warning them of the dangers that hinder their faith. What from this chapter was encouraging to you in your faith?
